Our Partnerships

Grounded in collaboration with leading research institutions

University of Nebraska–Lincoln

The University of Nebraska–Lincoln runs one of the most comprehensive agricultural research programs in the United States, spanning crop science, soil health, irrigation engineering, precision agriculture, agribusiness, and rural sociology. Through CropWatch extension, the West Central Research and Extension Center, and the Eastern Nebraska Research, Extension and Education Center — with its NFarms precision-agriculture initiative operating on more than 3,000 acres — UNL conducts the research that informs how we approach every African engagement: variety selection, water management, technology evaluation, and the practical economics of adoption.

Daugherty Water for Food Global Institute

The Robert B. Daugherty Water for Food Global Institute at the University of Nebraska is one of the world’s leading centers for research on sustainable water use in food production. The Institute’s work spans irrigation efficiency, groundwater governance, and the science of feeding a growing global population without exhausting freshwater resources. Their published research on smallholder irrigation in Sub-Saharan Africa, including the “Pathways to Increasing Farmer-led Investments” report, directly shapes how SASFA approaches irrigation planning, water stewardship, and the long-term sustainability of every system we recommend.

Nebraska Corn Board

Brandon Hunnicutt serves as a Director of the Nebraska Corn Board, the state organization that promotes Nebraska corn through research, market development, and farmer education. Through this longstanding relationship, SASFA stays connected to seed technology developments, sustainability initiatives, carbon market frameworks, and international market intelligence — including the Corn Board’s substantial work on technology transfer to Sub-Saharan Africa through partnerships with the U.S. Grains Council, where Jay Reiners serves as Secretary/Treasurer and Brandon leads the Middle East/Africa Team.
