Nebraska to Africa
Driving Innovation for Agricultural Sustainability
Two Nebraska farmers helping bridge American agricultural innovation and African farming communities. Precision agriculture, regenerative practices, and modern irrigation — adapted for the realities of Sub-Saharan Africa, grounded in 50+ years of combined production experience and active leadership across U.S. agricultural institutions.
Sustainable Agriculture Solutions for Africa
SASFA was founded by Jay Reiners (Secretary/Treasurer, U.S. Grains Council) and Brandon Hunnicutt (Director, Nebraska Corn Board) — two Nebraska farmers with 50+ years of combined production experience. They bring proven American agricultural technology, deep institutional connections to the University of Nebraska–Lincoln and the Daugherty Water for Food Global Institute, and direct on-the-ground engagement across Sub-Saharan Africa.
Our Areas of Expertise
Precision Agriculture
GPS-guided systems, drone technology, variable-rate application, and data-driven farm management.
Regenerative Agriculture
Cover cropping, no-till farming, soil health management, and biodiversity practices that build soil fertility.
Irrigation Technology
Modern irrigation systems, water-efficient technologies, and drought management adapted for African conditions.
Why Africa?
Africa holds 60% of the world’s uncultivated arable land and a population projected to double by 2050. Yet sub-Saharan cereal yields average roughly 1.5 tons per hectare — less than a quarter of U.S. yields. Closing even a fraction of that gap on existing farmland would feed millions while preserving forests and watersheds. The opportunity is immense, the leverage is real, and the methods are proven.
Let's Build the Future of African Agriculture Together
